Basic Expository essay Structure
Activate prior knowledge quickly. Display anchor chart with basic essay framework with no labels or words. Ask students to copy the essay frame into interactive notebook and to discuss possibilities with partner. Teacher should listen for key terms: Introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion, thesis statement, topic sentences, evidence, etc. Ask for volunteers to discuss the framework. Then, display the image to review common language.

Focuses on two symbols (one per body paragraph) How do they represent your culture? Why did you chose the art medium used? Color – shape – texture Did you anticipate viewers’ questions? Evidence of all stages of the writing process
