ECE756 Design of Lightwave Communication Systems and Networks

Objectives To provide fundamental principles of lasers, pulse propagation in fibers and photo-detection. To design a fiber-optic communication system consisting of lasers, optical fibers, amplifiers and photo-detectors.

Course Timings Undergraduate component:
Location: JHE-A102 Mondays and Wednesdays – 11:30 – 12:20 Fridays - 13:30 – 14:20 Graduate component – roughly once in two weeks Location – ETB 228 Fridays – 9:30 – 11:00

Evaluations Final Exam 40% Project 40% Mini Projects 20%
Assignments will be handed out but will not contribute towards the course grade.
