8. How are credit classes different from non-credit classes?
Credit Students are working towards either a career/technical certificate or degree program, or are taking courses that will be eligible to transfer for a program at another college or university. In some cases, students take courses that are offered for credit for personal reasons or skills updating, even if they do not need the college credit
Noncredit Students are taking courses for personal or professional interest. These courses do not offer college credit, but in some cases community education students can earn continuing education units, certification or other evidence of class completion to meet personal or professional requirements

9. Admission Requirement
All colleges and universities ask that you complete an application
Some may require test scores from tests like TOEFL, SAT, ACT
Some require you complete a certain number of units before applying
Some applications have a fee
Mt. SAC’s college application is free

10. Steps to apply to Mt. SAC Apply to Mt. SAC
Go to and complete the online application. The process will take about minutes.
2. Take the Placement test
Call (909) or go to the Assessment Center in Bldg. 9B to set up an appointment.
3. Attend a College Orientation
Call (909) for an appointment or you can complete your “Online Orientation” through your Mt. SAC Student Portal.
4. See a counselor
Call (909) or schedule a counseling appointment online through your Mt. SAC Student Portal. It’s recommended that you visit a counselor before registering for classes.
5. Register for classes
To register for classes, you must log onto your Mt. SAC Student Portal. If you need assistance, then you can go to the Student Services Center in Bldg. 9B.
6. Pay your fees
After you have registered for your class(es), you can pay online through your Mt. SAC Student Portal or at the Bursar’s Office in Bldg. 4.
