1 Global Service Team

2 Envisioning a day when every need in the world can be served by a Lion or Leo
We are a global association focused on serving others. We are the global leaders in humanitarian service! As we start our new century, now more than ever, Lions around the world are needed…to take ACTION! Action towards envisioning a day when every need in the world can be served by a Lion or Leo. The Global Action Team consists of the Global Membership Team (GMT), Global Leadership Team (GLT) and Global Service Team (GST). Along with the Lions Clubs International Foundation, this global team will bring Lions together to put our motto, “We Serve,” into action. It creates a new and unified approach to service, membership and leadership development at all levels of the Association!

Each member of the Global Action Team is an integral part of this volunteer structure. As a member of the Global Action Team, it is important to familiarize yourself with your specific responsibilities and those of each member in order to understand how every position plays an essential role—independently and collaboratively—in the success of the entire team. The LCIF Board of Trustees approved the following: LCIF should operate under a separate structure from the GAT and the LCIF Trustee Liaison position should be removed from the GAT. LCIF and GAT leaders should continue to informally collaborate and support each other in meeting their goals. 10 Putting service at the forefront of Lions Clubs International
2 The GST Objective LCI Forward Enhance service impact & focus Global causes Service goal Global Service Team Putting service at the forefront of Lions Clubs International Chris Bunch – LION Managing Editor Sanjeev Ahuja – Chief of Marketing & Membership Dan Hervey – Brand & Creative Director Stephanie Morales – Meetings Manager What is the GST objective? As you know, LCI Forward is our 5 year strategic plan designed to guide Lions Clubs into our second century of service. One of the LCI Forward core objectives is calling for us to enhance service impact and focus, which led to the creation of our strategically selected global causes. Building service opportunities around our global causes will help us reach our goal of serving 200 million people by In order to reach our new century service goal, the Global Service Team was created as part of the Global Action Team. GST Specialists are working with Lions regionally in order to improve the value of service projects and the efficiency of service project development. They are working closely with Lions and with the Program Development team to ensure Lions have the greatest service impact and reach all spectrums of helping those in need.

11 The footprint of our second century
2 Our Global Causes The footprint of our second century Chris Bunch – LION Managing Editor Sanjeev Ahuja – Chief of Marketing & Membership Dan Hervey – Brand & Creative Director Stephanie Morales – Meetings Manager DIABETES ENVIRONMENT HUNGER VISION CHILDHOOD CANCER And here are our global causes: diabetes, environment, hunger, vision, and childhood cancer, with diabetes as our first global cause and area of focus. We plan to build on our tradition of serving youth by engaging them as volunteers and service leaders throughout the 5 service areas. With this enhanced focus and strategic investment in program and resource development we are confidently pursuing our new century service goal calling us to serve 200 million people per year by It is important to keep in mind that while resource development is focusing on these five areas, the GST will continue supporting any and all local Lions projects with general service resources. Our global causes offer Lions and Leos opportunities to engage in international service initiatives within the five causes. These initiatives will be supported by LCI resources (such as service project planners, mini-grants, advocacy, and partnerships) as well as LCIF funding opportunities. It all starts with the pride that Lions have in serving those in need. As we serve our communities, Lions create a sense of belonging and foster respect among the club members as well as the community. As servants, Lions work together to ensure that the needs of their community members are addressed, to strengthen their club and cement the membership. In turn, others feel inspired to join in helping and serving. Honoring our history and meeting emerging needs And giving young people new opportunities to serve with us

In the end, our biggest priority is to help build the GST of the future, the GST we need. In order to create a strong and successful team that will best support Lions in our area, we must work with the GST specialists as colleagues and plan on engaging with them regularly.

14 The Service Journey Insert subhead Chris Bunch – LION Managing Editor
2 The Service Journey Learn Educate and build awareness among Lions and Leos. Discover Connect clubs to one another and inspire them through sharing project ideas, best practices, and success stories. Act Provide Lions and Leos with turn-key projects, grant opportunities, and other initiatives to increase their level of community engagement and impact. Celebrate Assess the project, recognize efforts and share Lions and Leos stories of success. Chris Bunch – LION Managing Editor Sanjeev Ahuja – Chief of Marketing & Membership Dan Hervey – Brand & Creative Director Stephanie Morales – Meetings Manager We understand Lions and Leos are diverse in their backgrounds, knowledge and interests. To meet these various backgrounds and needs, we have a new approach to resource development. This new member engagement strategy is called the Service Journey and it includes 4 steps for successful service: Learn, Discover, Act, and Celebrate. Learn: an opportunity for Lions and Leos to educate themselves on, develop confidence when speaking about, and connect personally with an issue. Learn emphasizes looking internally as individuals and as a club to connect with community needs, community service, and why we serve. Discover: where clubs connect with one another and discover the impactful projects, resources, etc. that other clubs have implemented. The Discover component is a big piece of our MyLion app and our new website. Clubs are able to explore other clubs’ service projects, will be able to message one another, generally making information more open so Lions can be inspired by other Lions around the world. Act: exactly what it sounds like- taking action. This could mean using a service project planner, applying for an LCI mini grant, fundraising for LCIF, and more. And finally Celebrate: this is after the project and is a time to reflect on challenges and successes, share stories, recognize members’ contributions, and make impact personal to members.

16 Resources Service Toolkit
2 Resources Service Toolkit Chris Bunch – LION Managing Editor Sanjeev Ahuja – Chief of Marketing & Membership Dan Hervey – Brand & Creative Director Stephanie Morales – Meetings Manager Service Project Planners Club & Community Needs Assessment Developing Local Partnerships Guide to Fundraising Reporting Guide / Why Service Reporting Matters The Service Toolkit is a collection of tools that will help Lions and Leos implement any service project, whether it engages with our global causes, or addresses another pressing community need. The Service Toolkit will be geared toward Lions and Leos who are eager to engage in these different components of service, but do not have background experience or confidence in how to begin. The toolkit will include: Service Project Planners, which will guide members through cause-specific planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting components of a successful service project. Club and Community Needs Assessment, which will help clubs understand their strengths and areas for improvement, as well as specific community needs within a service area that motivates them. Developing Local Partnerships, which will educate clubs about different types of partnerships and build Lions and Leos confidence in approaching potential partners Guide to Fundraising, which will help Lions and Leos engage with donors and raise funds for issues that they care about. Reporting Guide, to help Lions and Leos understand how to successfully report service and why it is important to help showcase our global impact. The Why serving reporting matters document answers that very question we so often hear: “Why is it so important for Lions to report their service?” Take a look at the document to find out why. Again, it is key to have constant two-way communication between our regional specialists and ourselves in order to create more regionally appropriate resources. This includes talking to Lions, data-gathering and giving feedback to specialists as new resources become available. Ongoing communication between LCI and GST Leaders is crucial for regionally appropriate resource development

We can’t reach our service impact goal if Lions aren’t reporting the service impact of their projects. -improve project development efficiency. This means planning simple, off the shelf, turnkey projects efficiently and with a greater service impact by utilizing tools and resources available. -work collaboratively with GMT and GLT. -work with our regional specialists to build the GST we need.
