1 IEEE Cloud Computing Standards Committee
IEEE CS Standards Activity Board Seattle, WA 03 June 2014 Steve Diamond

2 IEEE CCSC Oral Report Is your sponsor committee primarily a maintainer of an existing portfolio of standards or is it primarily performing new work. If new work, then what are the technologies or other drivers of this new work. If your committee is small, either in terms of number of projects or number of members, what actions should be taken to extend scope, increase membership, or otherwise invigorate the work? 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

3 IEEE Cloud Computing Standards Committee Projects
P2301 Guide for Cloud Portability and Interoperability Profiles (CPIP) P2302 Standard for Intercloud Interoperability and Federation (SIIF) Adaptive Management for Cloud Computing Study Group (AMCC) 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

4 IEEE P2301 Guide for Cloud Portability and Interoperability Profiles (CPIP)
Officers Chair, John Messina, NIST Secretary, Joel Fleck, HP (vice-chair) vacant (John Zic from CSIRO is an interested party) Draft Status No draft written yet. Currently reviewing source material in an effort to identify methodology to establish cloud profiles. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

5 IEEE P2301 CPIP Vitality Metrics
Total Number of Voting Members 10 (as of last meeting) Total Number of Participants 16 (since restart) Meeting Frequency Currently once a month (3rd Monday of each month) Achievements: Restarted IEEE P2301 Elected Secretary Started collecting source materials (cloud standards collections, use cases, cloud profiles/stakeholders) 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

6 IEEE P2301 CPIP Plans for 2014 Plans for Q2 Plans for rest of year
Identify methodology for establishing useful cloud profiles (via use cases, or based on international standards, etc). Identify methodology (or plan) on how to handle IR issues related to this document Plans for rest of year  Once a base set of profiles have been identified, create a detailed spare matrix and then start filling in matrix based on known cloud computing standards. Determine schedule for Sponsor Ballot 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

7 IEEE P2302 Standard for Intercloud Interoperability and Federation (SIIF)
Deepak Vij is the WG Chair Draft Status – Ongoing, version 0.6 WG meetings Schedule – Every other month Number of Voting Members – 10 Number of non-Voting Members – approx. 260 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

8 IEEE P2302 SIIF Status Major Accomplishment for 2014
Added a new sub-group called Intercloud SLA Incorporated multiple revisions to the Intercloud SLA section of the draft document. Latest version 0.6 of the draft document is scheduled for approval by voting members in the upcoming meeting scheduled for June 26th, 2014. Also, started looking into possibility of another viable virtualization scheme called “LXC/Docker Containers” as opposed to traditional hypervisior based virtualization. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

9 IEEE P2302 SIIF Major goals for rest of 2014
Closely work with Intercloud Testbed effort in order to evolve the P2302 draft document Depending on the active participation from WG members to rest of the sections in the draft, we roughly plan on publishing at least 5 more revisions to the draft in 2014. Accordingly, we might decide if we go ahead and finalize the working draft and forward it for Sponsor Ballot process by middle of the year 2015. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

10 Adaptive Management for Cloud Computing Study Group (AMCC)
Chair Joel Fleck, Senior Standards Architect, Head of Cloud Standards, HP Study Group Objective Decide whether to submit a PAR around the subject of Adaptive Management for Cloud Computing and its links to other areas in Cloud Computing including, but not limited to: Cloud Service Specification, Cloud Service Brokering and Cloud Provisioning. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

11 Adaptive Management for Cloud Computing Study Group Scope
The work being under study will investigate whether there is sufficient interest to develop an architecture for a management environment that will work “hand-in-hand” with the adaptive nature promised by a cloud service providing solutions to provide predictive, adaptive and context-based management of cloud environments. Focal areas under investigation will include: generation of contextual information during the specification/selection of services, support of policy-based decision, design of adaptive management decision systems, metrics associated with recommendations and metrics associated with perceived and actual system health. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1

12 Adaptive Management for Cloud Computing Study Group Purpose
Cloud computing promises a highly adaptive, rapidly changing means of delivering services to customers when, where and in the manner wanted. For such a vision to become reality, the management systems supporting cloud environments need to mirror the adaptive, changing nature of the service delivery systems, otherwise as systems introduce faults, evolve and react to their changing context. Without a change in management. Traditionally, management involves fairly applications analyze “after-the-fact” information to provide resolutions or “work-arounds” for problems, frequently long after the initial problems occurred, such an approach with cloud environments will move an initially adaptive cloud environment capable of support rapid change towards an inflexible set of services incapable of support the dynamic desires of cloud customers. 11/26/2018 IEEE CCSC SAB June 2014 Seattle Steve Diamond v1
