4 KISD 4 YEAR CAREER PLAN Shannon - Should be able to right click and open hyperlink. Ask them to take out of folder, briefly scan & note that I will refer to from time to time as I go through the ppt.

5 Foundation HSP & Endorsements
Shannnon Foundation HSP – The core of the Texas high school diploma that allows students to pursue their interests. Five Endorsements – options that allow students to focus on a related series of courses.

6 Foundation High School Plan with Endorsement 26 credits
4 English 4 Mathematics 4 Science 3 Social Studies 2 Languages other than English 1 PE 1 Fine Arts 7 Electives with at least 4 in the endorsement area ***Pre-Requisites – are non-negotiable – unless the course was completed out of state, out of country, or in a non-public school. Shannon - Will reference Career Plan that they will have in their possession while explaining credits. Pre-Requisites will explain

7 Endorsements STEM Careers that are heavily focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Engineer, Robotic Technician, Scientist, Mathematician) Arts and Humanities Musician, Historian, Artist, Linguist, Writer, Editor, Actor/Actress, Dancer Public Services Health Services, Cosmetology, Firefighter, Law Enforcement, Education, ROTC Business and Industry Animal Science, Natural Resources, Design, Architecture and Construction, Audio Video Production, Animation, Graphic Design, Photography, Digital Audio Technology, Video Game Design, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Services, Networking, Welding, Auto Tech, Accounting, Marketing, Business Management, Medical Informatics, Newspaper, Yearbook, Broadcast Journalism, Debate, Cyber Security Multidisciplinary Career Options are broad; this endorsement can include dual credit, advanced placement courses from multiple areas of interest. Shannon - Used this slide leading into endorsements; ex. to say, as you’re thinking about a career and what you may want to pursue in college; here’s kind of how you look at the endorsements; then you look at the courses involve and decide if the interests match. At the end of endorsement slides, will also let them know that they will get to speak with counselors at the endorsements tables later and get an idea of what are the Programs of study.

Make the best grades you can in the most challenging courses you can take. Consider taking high school credit courses in middle school Principles of Manufacturing Art Theatre Algebra I Foreign Language Journalism Shannon - Note: High school credit courses that may be offered at your campus; not all are offered at every middle school campus.

In which Career Clusters do you find your interests as: Skills in demand Strengths in the industry What are the professional skills needed in this Career Cluster? What careers are in demand in Texas? 18 College or Career? Consider college in alignment with your career goals. College is expensive. Be intentional. Have a plan! Does your desired career require postsecondary education? Can you enter the career without college? Will college be required for you to advance in this career? What kind of coursework or college experience do you need? Technical Education Traditional, Academic Education Advanced Degree

19 Make a Plan What is the educational level required for the career you want? Visit colleges who offer programs of study required for your desired career. Compare and contrast colleges to decide which colleges are the best fit for you. Understand the admission requirements for each college. What industry experience will give you a competitive advantage? Find a mentor in the industry you would like to work. Volunteer at businesses aligned with your desired career field. Share your plan with your family, counselors, and your teachers. Ask them to help you connect what you are learning in school with your future goals. Nancy
