Academic Standing Based solely on OSU cumulative GPA. Transfer courses (including DPP courses) are never considered in the determination of the OSU academic standing. Good, Warning, Probation, and Suspension Not linear No limits on number of reinstatements (though a second appearance before the ASC is rare) For students on probation, a term with a single credit below 2.0 will result in suspension November 26, 2018
4
Reinstatement – 3 Options
Two-year absence 24 credits, minimum 2.5 GPA Reinstatement by Exception Senior Exception November 26, 2018
5
Reinstatement by Exception
Petition to the ASC, supported by the student’s academic college. ASC reviews exceptional situations and individual circumstances relevant to each situation ASC decision is never whether a student ought to return to OSU, but the best term and conditions for a student’s return. November 26, 2018
6
Guidelines for Exception
ASC considers requests in which ALL THREE of the following conditions are met: Poor academic performance was the result of extraordinary circumstances that have been demonstrably corrected or substantially addressed. Student’s academic advisor (with consultation with the Head Advisor) is willing to argue convincingly that the student has a strong probability of completing the degree. There is also evidence in the academic record of an ability to succeed academically. November 26, 2018
7
Extraordinary Circumstances
Must have occurred within, or close to chronologically, the term of suspension Exceptional or extraordinary Has to have impacted academic success The committee will try to determine whether the exceptional issue(s) have been corrected. November 26, 2018

ASC Tips: Assessing extenuating – could/are other students faced with similar situations? Create "win-win” short term solution – take one term at LBCC and return with a 3.0, then we can file a petition – more evidence of success. 1 class is not truly evidence of past success. Caution around tight turn around terms eg: winter to spring. Please attend with the student when possible & appropriate. Please communicate any concern to committee in advance of the scheduling meeting. November 26, 2018
