Two Day Lesson adapted from <
2
Day One: Warm Up Label a page in your notebook “Hatching and Stippling.” Supplies: Pass out rulers to your tables. Underneath, draw four small squares: Watch this short video on hatching and cross-hatching: Hatching and Crosshatching Take two-three minutes to practice the techniques. Can you label the boxes?
3
Today’s Assignment Today, you will create a drawing of tangled ribbons. You will use shading to make your drawing look 3-D! Draw a light pencil border, 1 ¼ inch.
4
Steps 2 and 3 2. Draw a wavy line, edge to edge, any way you want.
3. Draw a second line following the first. Vary the width!
5
Steps 4 and 5 4. Draw a second ribbon behind the first.
5. Number every ribbon as you draw… especially where they cross!
6
Steps 6 and 7 6. Draw a total of 12 ribbons. Number each one!
7. Use a black pen to shade in the background using dense crosshatching. Be careful!
7
This is what you are working towards!
8
Wrap Up! Tomorrow, we will finish our drawings!
Everyone: Place your drawings in your notebooks or in your portfolios. Supplies: When everyone is seated, return rulers to the shelves. Take up markers and pens and return them to me! Every group must be neat and seated before we dismiss!
9
Day 2: Warm Up On your page labeled “Hatching and Stippling,” draw three boxes. As you watch the video, practice the stippling techniques you see! How to stipple. Today, you will finish the ribbon drawing you began yesterday!
10
Step 8 Skip ribbon 1. Start shading ribbon 2 anywhere it’s overlapped by number 1. Shade on both sides. Shading should start with dark crosshatching, fade to medium hatching, and then fade to light stippling.
11
Step 9: Continue shading in numbered order.
12
Step 10: Use a pencil to connect the ends of the ribbon outside the border. Add folds and twists!
13
Finish! Outline with a black pen and complete shading.
