4. Step One
Thoroughly clean the surface of the rotor or drum that will be mounted on the Quick Chuck. ( Step 1A & 1B)

Place the hubless rotor or hubless drum on a clean, flat surface. Attach your hubless rotor or drum to the Quick Chuck by positioning the Quick Chuck with the jaws in the center hole.

Tighten the jaws by inserting the key into one of the key slots in the side of the chuck, turning counterclockwise. The Quick Chuck will automatically self-center the rotor or drum. Make sure that the chuck jaws are tight. DO NOT leave the key in the key slot when starting the brake lathe.

Install the backing plate onto the brake lathe arbor with offset backing outward.

Mount the Quick Chuck with drum or rotor installed onto the 1" arbor

Using the spacers supplied with the brake lathe, add as many as needed to reach the arbor threads

10. Step 3D
Using the adjusting nut supplied with the machine, tighten the nut against the spacers. After tightening the Quick Chuck, turn on the brake lathe to check for run-out of the rotor or drum. Run-out spec. is .001” You are now ready to resurface the rotor or drum.

13. Important – Please note ALWAYS use the largest possible backing plate
Important – Please note ALWAYS use the largest possible backing plate. This will help eliminate the rotor or drum vibration while being turned. On some brake lathes, a small spacer may be needed before the installation of the backing plate.

15. NOTE: THE CLEANING OF THE CHUCK
NOTE: THE CLEANING OF THE CHUCK. When the jaws have been removed it allows for cleaning of the Chuck (the jaws are numbered on the side as 1, 2, 3) it is VERY IMPORTANT that they be reinstalled in the same manner that they were removed. Reinstall in the order of (counterclockwise). A slight amount of pressure may be required on each of the jaws to allow them to be reinstalled evenly and correctly. (Figure 1 & 2 below)
