Students will identify traditional clothing from Cape York. Prior Knowledge Students need to draw on their prior knowledge of why changes happen in the way people live, which was the focus of previous content lessons. Concept Development The clothing worn by Aboriginal people has changed over time. What Aboriginal People wear now in the present, is not what they wore before, in the past. Refer to Teacher Dialogue Clothing from before, in the past If items of clothing were worn, they were made from animal skins, leaves or things from the natural surroundings. It is important to understand the changes that have occurred to the way Aboriginal people living in Cape York dressed before in the past, to now in the present. Before in the past, clothing was made from materials found in the local area. Machines, new inventions and new materials have meant that different types of clothing now exist and, as such, have changed the way Aboriginal people dress in their everyday life. 11
