Update on implementation efforts to date Primary FY18 accomplishments Challenges and lessons learned Campus examples of Transfer Pathways implementation efforts FY19 Priorities - Small Group discussion NICOLE
3
Transfer Pathways Overview
Legislative mandate in 2014 and 2015 Develop pathways for AA, AS, and AFA degrees Lower costs through efficiency with credits and time Simpler set of Transfer Pathways Legislation requires us to “Implement multi-campus articulation agreements that lead to baccalaureate degree completion upon earning the number of credits required for the degree minus 60 credits at a system university after transfer to the system university…” NICOLE
4
Key Elements of the Original Transfer Pathways Plan
1 A Transfer Pathways Coordinating Team, co-chaired by college and university faculty, will implement the plan Transfer Pathways Teams in 30 disciplines will create aligned associate and bachelor’s programs for smooth transfer from colleges to universities. The process will be faculty-led, and involve students and transfer and advising staff. Implementation will occur in several phases, Four pilot degree pathways will be designed in spring Pathways will address the great majority of programs in which students take bachelor’s degrees. The scope of the project includes all colleges and all universities that offer parallel associate and bachelor’s degrees. 2 3 4 NICOLE 5

Transfer Pathways Development and Implementation Timeline
FY15-FY17 Faculty-led teams develop transfer pathway degrees FY18 Implement first four pilot transfer pathway degrees FY19-FY20 Complete implementation of remaining transfer pathway degrees NICOLE
6
Accomplishments
26 transfer pathways degrees developed by faculty-led teams 139 transfer pathway degree programs have been approved at 22 colleges through September Phase 1 and 2 maps sent to universities; increased course relationships in DARS ensure equity with how courses transfer Over 4,000 students have declared a transfer pathway as of September Transfer Pathways Coordinating Team developed and approved an evaluation and governance plan for transfer pathways LOUISE
7
Linkage to system strategic priorities areas
•Student success –Transfer Pathways help students select an appropriate program and have an understanding about where they can transfer and to what specific major(s) –Transfer Pathways should help limit the number of credits students take –Transfer Pathways should increase degree completion and retention •Equity and inclusion –Improved course equivalencies and use of DARS ensures students are treated equitably and consistently –Transfer Pathways support inclusion since all state universities participate •Program and campus sustainability –Transfer Pathways will need to be evaluated, reviewed and maintained as they become a key way students transfer LOUISE
8
Key Challenges Varying levels of transfer knowledge and understanding: *Course outlines—official document *Consistency of course information within college *Awareness of resources *Awareness of system procedure requirements Variety within the Transfer Pathway degrees. Communication across the full spectrum of stakeholders 1 2 LOUISE 3

Projects to support Transfer Pathway Implementation
Working with Anoka Ramsey Community College, North Hennepin Community College, and Hennepin Technical College on a Technology Consortium with the vision of advancing and transforming technology to eliminate barriers to access, create sustainability, and provide a seamless experience for students. Working with faculty on assignments of equivalencies in the DARS system to make the transfer process seamless. AMY

Challenges & Solutions for Small Campuses
Challenge: Curriculum and Institutional Alignments - Some pathways (e.g., psychology) require a course that is challenging for a small school to offer or sustain. - Some pathways may be easily adopted (e.g., History), but the Universities in the pathway are not our transfer partners (I.e., geographically, not where our students end up going). BRIAN
15
Challenges & Solutions for Small Campuses
Opportunity: Do we support course offerings for a set of rural colleges to meet curricular needs in specific pathways? What does this look like? What does marketing look like beyond our already (plentiful) articulation agreements? Institutional Unique Considerations – e.g.: Use of "Pathway," existing technical and AA programing, already existing relationships with universities. BRIAN
