1
Bohr’s Ancient Experiment (1922)
2
Bohr’s Model “Bohr was the first to discover that electrons travel in separate orbits around the nucleus and that the number of the electrons in the outer orbit and that the number of electrons in the outer orbit determines the properties of an element.”
3
Bohr’s Model Incorrect model Correct model
4
Schrodinger’s Method Schrodinger developed an equation that treated electrons as waves, and indicated that you can only determine the PROBABILITY of finding an electron at any given space in an orbital
5
Bohr’s Accuracy We agree that electrons travel in separate orbitals
The numbers of electrons in the outer orbital determine the properties of the element
6
Our Understanding Yes, we believe that our understanding has changed due to the modification of the newer model of the atom. Because our technology has improved, we have a better understanding of atoms actually look like, so we can be more accurate and precise. We did keep some things from Bohr’s model because they made sense to the newer model, and were an enhancement to the making of the newer model.
