Making a transition Bradstreet made the move with her husband to seek a Puritan way of life. Consequently, this was a difficult time for Bradstreet as she was accustomed to a life of privilege. Bradstreet turned to God and her writing.

First American Poet Anne Bradstreet is considered in history the first American poet which was quite an accomplishment as women were not supposed to write. Her brother had taken a collection of her works and had them published. Her poetry is described to be a personal account of everyday life, religion, and tradition. She wrote lyric poetry, and she utilized several different devices: Inverted syntax Imagery Allusions Archaic language Rhyme and rhythm Hyperboles Paradox
