Recap Prior to half term, you have looked at the various strategies which can be used in order to deal with the various challenging behaviours which you have identified in your previous pieces of work. In order to achieve M2 and D1, you will need to write a report which will discuss and evaluate the strategies which you have identified in your P3 task.
4
Structure You will need to use the 6 strategies which you have used in your P3 task. You will need to discuss their effectiveness when dealing with challenging behaviour within your own placement or any other HSC setting of your choice when attempting to use one of the specific approaches listed below: Providing active support, Partnership working, Psychotherapy, Cognitive behavior therapy, Medication, Behaviour modification programs.

Example The use of body language when dealing with verbal abuse is a good strategy to used as it help to prevent a situation from escalating into a more serious one. For example, nurses in hospitals when dealing with individuals under the influence of drugs and alcohol will need to ensure that their body language is calm and collected to prevent further aggression which can become physical. However, body language is not a good strategy to be used when dealing with verbal abuse as the service provider in the above example might take the calmness of the nurse as an opportunity to carry on with their behaviour and lead to the nurse feeling disempowered which could affect the service provided to the service user.
9
Evaluation In order to achieve D1, you will need to review the information discussed in your M2 and provide an overall conclusion of the use of strategies when dealing with challenging behaviours.
