4. Wave
– a disturbance or disruption that transfers energy from one place to another

5. Medium
– any substance that a wave moves through (solid, liquid or gas)

6. Types of Waves
Mechanical
Electromagnetic

7. Mechanical Wave
– requires a medium to transfer energy

8. Electromagnetic Wave
– DOES NOT require a medium to transfer energy

Transverse (wave)
Longitudinal (wave)

10. Transverse Wave
– the direction of travel is perpendicular to the disturbance
“Trans” means across

11. Longitudinal Wave
– the direction of travel is the same as to the disturbance

– the highest point of a wave

– the number of waves passing a fixed point in a given period of time
