1 Waves Practice Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015

2 Do Now Study for the test on Wednesday
There will be a review session at 8 Do Now You should have your sheet from yesterday Complete Tuesday’s questions

3 Objectives SWBAT practice finding wavelength, frequency, and amplitude
SWBAT differentiate longitudinal and transverse waves by looking at examples SWBAT explain wave interactions by looking at a picture

4 Vocabulary Amplitude Wavelength Frequency
measures the energy of a transverse wave. Measured from the equilibrium position to the top of a crest or the bottom of a trough (see vertical arrow) Wavelength length of a single wave cycle (horizontal arrow double sided arrow) Frequency # of waves that pass a point in a given amount of time measured in hertz (Hz)

5 Find the wavelength, amplitude, and frequency with units
The time of wave from start to finish is 2 seconds (frequency = # of waves/second) The distance from the bottom of the wave to the top of the wave is 10 cm The total length of the wave is 60 cm (wavelength = total distance/# of waves)

6 Find the wavelength, amplitude, and frequency with units
The time of wave from start to finish is 9 seconds The distance from the bottom of the wave to the top of the wave is 30 cm The total length of the wave is 54 cm

7 Classwork Practice worksheet
Identifying amplitude, frequency, wavelength Longitudinal vs. Transverse waves Refraction, reflection, diffraction, and interference When you finish you can ask for the extension activity about seeing other wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum Don’t write on these and please return them
