6 Smells- stinky hair Wash and brush your hair everyday
If you sweat a lot this can cause dirt and oil to get trapped and make your hair smelly. What should you do  Brush or comb your hair every day at least once Wash your hair at least once a week, but more often if you sweat a lot or play a lot of sports

7 Oh no Lice! Often students can get lice from sharing brushes or hats and toques. Please DONT SHARE. DO NOT SHARE brushed or combs, hair accessories, hats or toques with other students, as this can cause head lice to spread if someone has it. (There is often an increase in the number of head lice cases after a school break due to increased sleepovers and sharing of personal items such as hair care products)

8 Smells- Stinky Breath Bad breath is caused by things like certain types of foods, poor dental hygiene, smoking Some foods like garlic, onions, cheese, sugar, coffee, juice make your breath smell bad Poor dental: always BRUSH, RINSE, FLOSS Smoking what should you do Brush your teeth twice a day with toothpaste and floss at least once a day Brush your tongue once a day because bacteria can grow there also If you have eaten a stinky food or had a drink that gives you bad breath, rinse your mouth out with some water, have a quick brush, chew a piece of sugar-free gum if allowed, have a sugar-free mint

9 Wash your hands Your hands touch everything this means they come into contact with both good germs and bad germs. Its important to make a habit of washing your hands after you: Get them dirty from outside Sneeze or cough Go to the washroom Your hands touch everything! This means that you come into contact with lots of both good and bad germs every day. If you have sneezed or coughed on your hands you could pass those germs along to someone else with your hands when you touch different things in your environment and then someone else touches the same thing. What should you do Wash your hands with soap and water if you can see the dirt on them Always wash your hands after using the bathroom Always wash your hands before eating Always wash your hands after touching animals Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into them Always make sure to keep your nails cut short and clean as bugs hide under your nails

10 Smells- Stinky Armpits
The smell in your armpits is caused by a combination of special sweat glands that you have in your armpits and bacteria on your skin Dirty t-shirts that have old sweat dried on them What should you do: Have a BATH or SHOWER EVERY DAY (at the beginning of the day, or before you go to bed) Make sure you USE SOAP EVERYTIME you have a bath or shower and scrub all parts of your body with soap including especially your: face, behind your ears, your armpits, your fingernails, your genital area and your bum, your feet and between your toes. Make sure you put on a CLEAN T-SHIRT EVERYDAY (if you body is clean but your clothes are dirty then you can still be stinky!) Talk to one of your parents about using deodorant or antiperspirant Change your t-shirt after you have been doing physical activity (like gym class)

11 Smells- stinky feet Sweat combined with the bacteria that live on our feet make them smelly What should you do: WASH your feet EVERYDAY Make sure to put fresh CLEAN socks everyday Wash the insoles of your shoes occasionally if your shoes get really smelly or get one of your parents to used a disinfecting spray to kill the bacteria in your shoes If your feet are very sweaty, you can sprinkle some baking soda on them before you put on socks as this can help to absorb some of the wetness

12 Smells- Stinky Clothing
It is important to make sure to wear a clean t-shirt each day, along with clean socks, and clean underwear. Often you can wear a pair of pants 2-3 times before they need a washing, unless you fall in the mud, spill something on them, or have been very sweaty in them – then they need to be washed. What should you do Find out who does the laundry in your house and ask if you can help out, or even learn how to do your own laundry Let an adult know if you have dirty clothes that need to be washed Learn about the different laundry soap products that are used in your home or at the Laundromats Clothes collect the most dirt, sweat, smells. If your clothes are dirty it does not matter you will probably still be stinky

13 underwear There is bacteria in your genital area, this along with being hot throughout the day can cause a smell. Not cleaning yourself after you use the washroom can cause an odour. Your genital area can get very hot and sweaty throughout the day, especially if as you get older. In combination with bacteria, this can make for a stinky situation. Also, not cleaning yourself properly after going to the bathroom can leave you stinky. What should you do PUT ON A CLEAN PAIR OF UNDERWEAR EVERY DAY – NO EXCEPTIONS Always wipe yourself after using the bathroom, and make sure to wipe your bum until it is clean

14 What did we learn? Having a shower and using soap everyday helps our hair and bodies to not smell NOT SHARING hats or items that go on our heads helps to prevent lice. Brushing our teeth at least 2 times a day helps stop bad breath and gum disease. Washing our hands prevents the spread of germs Stinky feet and armpits are caused by bacteria and sweat Making sure we wear clean underwear and clothes everyday helps us to not smell.
