5 Mission Statement Our mission as a volleyball coaching staff is to provide all players in the Tartan Volleyball program with a positive and competitive experience in which they will continue to develop their volleyball, teamwork and life skills.

6 Team Philosophy Your Tartan Volleyball coaches are dedicated to you as students, athletes and as young women. It is our goal to provide every opportunity for all players to become as good as they can be. However, it is up to each player to achieve this by being ready and willing to learn and commit to the process. Here are some key components of Tartan Volleyball’s program that can help you be successful.

7 Philosophy Components:
The team comes first. Rules help our program run smoothly. Our athletes will be coachable. Our team works hard. We will make and embrace mistakes. Our team has balance. Our athletes are students first.

8 Philosophy Components:
Be on time and be prepared. Take care of your body. Communicate. Respect all officials. Be mentally tough. Be a student of the game. Pass it on.

9 Communication As coaches we plan to keep the lines of communication open with both athletes and parents. Our players are at an age and maturity level where they can be expected to communicate effectively. We ask that player come to their coach with any questions or concerns.

10 Communication Acceptable steps of Communication *********************
1. Player and Coach 2. Player, Coach and Varsity Coach 3. Player and Parent meets with Coach and Varsity Coach 4. Player, Parent, Coach, Varsity Coach and AD. ********************* Parents may a coach informing us their daughter would like to talk – but do NOT include any details. Encourage your players to express their own concerns.

11 Communication 24/72 Hour Rule:
Wait 24 hours to contact a coach when an issue arises. Do NOT approach a coach with an issue on a game day. Please call or the coach to set up a time to talk. If an issue is not brought up within 72 hours of it occurring, move on. Coaches will NOT discuss the following with parents: Playing Time Coaching Decisions Other Players

12 Grades All players involved in the Tartan Volleyball program must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Grades will be check after midterms and periodically throughout the season. Players may be benched at any time throughout the season for low grades or poor behavior. All grade cases will be judged on a case by case basis. Players MUST be on track to graduate. If at any point in the season a player is not on track, then you will not be eligible to play.

13 Playing Time All players on 9B, 9A, B-Squad, and JV will ideally get to play in at least one set per match. NOTE: If a player is a 3 rotation player on their team, then they are only guaranteed those three rotations in one set. Varsity players are NOT guaranteed any playing time. Playing time can be reduced or cut completely at any time based on work ethic, behavioral issues, attitude, health/injuries, attendance and team chemistry. If playing time is cut due to any of these issues, it will be clearly communicated to the player by their coach in an effort to get the player back on the court.
