The biggest clash was the “Scopes Trial”
Tennessee had outlawed the teaching of evolution in science classes.
John Scopes taught it anyway and was arrested and put on trial.

Prohibition was adopted in 1920.
It was the 18th Amendment.
The Fundamentalists won this round.
The manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol was made illegal.

Bootlegger – People who smuggled liquor
Speakeasy – An illegal bar

Immigration still bothered people.

National Origins Act 1924
Immigration Act 1924
All put limits on Southern and Eastern Europeans.
Social Mores – The moral attitudes of the day were changing. Some people didn’t like this.
