Summary Template Like a good movie trailer, how do we hook a reader with a book “trailer” on paper? This template can be used when trying to attract a reader to read a book, but not give away too much information. Gary Paulsen's Hatchet is the example used.

Summary Template In the (genre) novel (title) by (author), (protagonist name) learns/changes/grows through (theme). Example: In the adventure novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Brian grows through perseverance.

Summary Template In the novel, (character name) is a (age) (gender) who is (a character trait or situation). Example In the novel, Brian is a teenaged boy who is stranded in the wild with nothing but a hatchet.

Summary Template As the story develops, (character name faces the challenge of (name the major conflict of the story). Example As the conflict develops, Brian faces the challenge of survival on his own.
