How Bernie, the Software Asset Manager, can verify the consumption of Flexpoints
Bernie’s tasks: Bernie’s organization purchased Flexpoint Bundles offered by IBM Cloud and IBM Analytics appreciating flexibility of those offerings. After deployment of some key products from the bundles, Bernie was asked to verify if it is still possible to deploy some more while preserving compliance... Solution: Bernie learnt that ILMT is capable of reporting the current consumption of Flexpoints for the deployed bundles. He is going to use the new reports to find out if any unused Flexpoints are left, what would allow the deployment of additional products from the purchased bundles. Otherwise, Bernie would recommend purchasing more Flexpoints.

How Mark, the Infrastructure Administrator, can be quickly informed that VM Manager connection needs to be fixed
Mark’s tasks: Mark needs to make sure, that the data about VMware hypervisors is regularly captured by ILMT for accurate PVU subcapacity reporting. Although he is working with LMT web UI on daily basis, he did not catch the expired password for VM Manager connection on time in the past, which resulted in license peaks he wants to prevent. Solution: With ‚To Do List’ visible on the top navigation bar, Mark is immediately informed whenever the data from VM Manager becomes outdated so that he has time to fix the connection without negative impact on license utilization.

The actions disappear once the problem is resolved (action taken)

How Bernie, the Software Asset Manager, can assign the unused Office 365 license to a new employee
Bernie’s tasks: Bernie’s organization has fixed a number of Office 365 subscription licenses. All of the licenses are already assigned. However, Bernie was asked to provide a license to a new employee... Solution: Bernie uses BFI to identify Office 365 instance which is used least frequently. Then, he checks to which employee it belongs. After that, he can verify if this person needs the license, and if not assign it to the new employee.

How can Raphael, the Security Operation Center Analyst, quickly check vulnerability risk for specific computer
Raphael’s tasks: Raphael investigates an offence related to the specific computer. He needs to understand what vulnerabilities, if any, are found on this computer. Once he is done with the investigation, he would like to quickly check if any other vulnerabilities have been recently found in the infrastructure. Solution: Raphael reviews the dashboard and opens the Vulnerable Software report. He filters this report to data relevant to the specific computer that he is interested in. Then, he reviews the report with recently discovered vulnerable software for further actions. Optionally, Raphael goes to National Vulnerability Database to learn more about vulnerability details or uses API to query BigFix Inventory without a need to access the user interface.

Invitation to Early Access program for PVU counting in IBM Cloud Private (ICP)
IBM Cloud Private (ICP) is IBM strategic, enterprise-ready private cloud computing platform, based on Kubernetes - the industry leading application containerization technology.
IBM is introducing sub-capacity for containers guidance for PVU-based licenses. BigFix Inventory & ILMT plan is to introduce reporting subcapacity licenses at the container level for the customer to take advantage from more granular and dynamic capacity management technology.
Participation in Early Access program will let you be aware of supported scenarios, verify if proposed solution matches the needs of your ICP environment and to influence on how this solution will be implemented.
