Fatigue Diminished immunity to disease Irritability Inattention Hand tremors etc… Example-New York disc jockey, Peter Tripp, stayed awake for 200 hrs to raise money for a charity. He experienced visual illusions & could not do simple arithmetic.

STAGES OF SLEEP Stages 1-4
(Note: even more stages recognized today) Stage 1-light sleep-brain waves similar to being awake Stage 4-Very difficult to awake at this stage We proceed through 4 stages approximately every 90 min

REM SLEEP ‘Rapid Eye Movement’ Occurs during Stage 1
Can determine if subject is dreaming by their eye movements If REM sleep is interrupted subject becomes short tempered & less able to concentrate
