And nobody else,
Must cure whatever is wrong,
Must lead to a higher individuality,
And ultimately to a cleaner race.
Who live in comfortable homes,

In sheer high spirits.
It was their duty,
Curing of the evils
Of the world.
To go outside
And attack it
The social problems of our times.
The sacking of a city.
Which may require operations,
Which will seem severe.
Organization is the only hope.
Atmosphere of crime and laziness,
Swarming in tenement-houses.

Invariably given to hard drinking .
The newspapers,
The theatrical posters,
The street conversations for weeks had to do with
The human instinct.
The growing belief that
The life of each human being,
However hopeless or degraded,
Is still sacred,
And that want and degradation
Should not blot out lives.
What a tremendous thing it is,
And how are we ever
Going to do the job?
