5 Key Points For Sabbath/Kashrut Observers
When entering the Shalom ( Kosher) Café please do not bring in outside food/drinks or bags as it will contaminate the kitchen. Patients will not ask for your assistance due to religious restrictions on the Sabbath or the holidays. You can assist them by turning on/off the lights in the room and/or adjusting their beds for them as needed or if you identify they are having difficulty with mobility and lighting. Please note not to ask if they need assistance but just to be mindful. On the Sabbath Day when transporting a patient for any procedure/testing please use the Sabbath elevators that will manually stop on every floor. Be cautious when documentation needs to be signed on the Sabbath for a patient. It is important to note and take verbal consent for any testing or medications that need patient signature.

6 Key Points for Sabbath/Kashrut Observers
Key Points ( Continued) When heating up a Kosher meal for a patient please only use the designated Kosher microwave. If you are serving a patient a Kosher meal it is important to let them see you break the seal to ensure it has been properly handled via the religious procedures and protocol. While the hospital acknowledges the Christian holiday season as a whole we do not formally display the Christian Christmas traditions/decorations (exception pediatrics).
