3 Inspirational Motivation
Inspirational motivation is more about the follower. Leaders communicate high expectations, encouraging the follower to believe in themselves and strive to become the very best version of themselves, but to also believe in the collective cause, stressing the importance of the team. Use of tools such as storytelling is vital. Schultz communicated his high expectations of all his followers, employees, shareholders, partners. He strongly promoted team spirit: “You'll be left with an empty feeling if you hit the finish line alone. When you run a race as a team, though, you'll discover that much of the reward comes from hitting the tape together. You want to be surrounded not just by cheering onlookers but by a crowd of winners, celebrating as one.” -Howard Schultz  Schultz uses his own success story as a tool to inspire followers to strive for personal development. “Grow with discipline. Balance intuition with rigor. Innovate around the core. Don't embrace the status quo. Find new ways to see. Never expect a silver bullet. Get your hands dirty. Listen with empathy and overcommunicate with transparency. Tell your story, refusing to let others define you. Use authentic experiences to inspire. Stick to your values, they are your foundation. Hold people accountable, but give them the tools to succeed. Make the tough choices; it's how you execute that counts. Be decisive in times of crisis. Be nimble. Find truth in trials and lessons in mistakes. Be responsible for what you see, hear, and do. Believe.”  - Howard Schultz Inspirational Motivation

4 Intellectual Stimulation
Intellectual stimulation relates to motivating followers to challenge their own beliefs and values, as well as those of the leader and organization. This is where the real transformation happens as the leader supports followers and encourages them to be creative and try new approaches and to develop innovative ways of handling organization issues. Schultz firmly believed in the importance of intellectual stimulation, “to stay vigorous, a company needs to provide a stimulating and challenging environment for all these types: the dreamer, the entrepreneur, the professional manager, and the leader.” – Howard Schultz  Starbucks culture is one of creativity and innovation: Provides a forum for complete customization of beverages by consumers Foster employee creativity and innovation: The Frappuccino was invented by an employee Constantly inventing new products
