1 ART       Contact Information: Camelia Rivers Conference Period, 4th: 11:16-12:30 Phone: Tutoring: Before School: Thursday 8:00 a.m.-8:40 am After School: Monday 3:45-4:30 Art Clubs: Thursday before school The objective for this course is for the student to gain a basic understanding of the elements and principles of art, design, art criticism, theory, and history. Students will also learn proper care and safe use of a variety of art materials. We will work in a variety of media including, but not limited to, pencil, color pencil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, collage, and ceramics. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in art exhibitions and public art works. Supplies: Students will need a pencil, thin black pen or marker, hand held sharpener, eraser, and folder for class. The folder may be any type the student wishes; please no binders. We will use these for our sketchbooks. Students may use an actual sketchbook. However, sketchbook paper is always available. Each student is required to pay a $10 art lab fee. This may be paid online. The rest of our supplies will be purchased with the lab fee. In class we will make portfolios to hold artwork. Students may take their portfolios home at any time. However, it is the student's responsibility to have their work every day. Students who fail to bring their work in will be given an additional alternative assignment. Grading: Students will be graded on participation in class, minor quizzes, tests, minor and major projects, and homework. (FYI: I assign a very limited amount of homework. Therefore, participation in class is extremely important). A final exam will be given in each course. All assignments must be turned in by their given deadline. However, I believe that learning is a process that builds upon itself. Therefore, students may resubmit the studio portion of a major project for a higher grade within three days of having their project returned to them. Students will receive a minimum of two grades per week. We will also have a minimum of three major projects per nine weeks. All major projects and tests will count for two grades. Please follow your student’s progress on Skyward. You can access information and Skyward from the art class web page. Also, check out the art class web page: If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by or phone Thank You, I am looking forward to a great year!
