3 Individualized Homework
` HOMEWORK Individualized Homework Due to the varying levels of each student, at times homework will be individualized in order to meet their specific needs. Homework Planner Your child will be given a planner that is to be used on a daily basis. The purpose is to communicate homework between home & school. A parent signature is required each night.

4 NIGHTLY HOMEWORK Reading - study vocabulary words and sight words
` NIGHTLY HOMEWORK Reading - study vocabulary words and sight words - read minutes Math -addition and subtraction facts -a very short math worksheet will be assigned most nights Monday-Thursday Spelling-A pre-test will be given the first day of each week. Spelling homework is not assigned. I feel as a parent you know how much your child needs to study their spelling words. I will send home spelling practice suggestions at the beginning of the year. Weekends-I TRY not to assign homework over the weekend.

5 Responsive Classroom A community based approach that emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth. Announcements I communicate through . Please make sure your address is updated through the portal. Promoting Reading Reading should be an everyday occurrence. Incorporate reading into your daily routine. A reading log will be sent home every month. Community Supplies Please help us with the supplies needed for our classroom community. Donations such as tissues , Ziploc baggies and Clorox wipes would be greatly appreciated! Occasionally I will ask for other donations.

7 Star Student Monday - Share photos
Tuesday - Read favorite book to class (10 minutes in length) Wednesday - Teach the class Thursday - Sit at back table with friend Friday-Make-up day Students are chosen randomly for Star Student. Every child will get a chance to be Star Student. Students love it! They will also be in charge of calling out the morning math jobs and will be called on first to come to the Smartboard.

8 Positive Behavior Every week, Day 1, we will be having positive behavior meetings in our classroom. These meetings help to build a collaborative classroom community and promote a safe, inclusive environment. T - Together E- Everyone A- Achieves M- More This year we will be focusing on the 7 Habits of Happy Kids

12 Please be aware... Classroom Snacks: Students are not permitted to bring snacks from home to be consumed in the classroom. Special School Events: If a special school event includes the use of food, it is the classroom teacher's responsibility to work with the building administration, school nurse, parents, and activity organizer to provide for any appropriate allergy-related restrictions. A listing of suggested food choices for classroom celebrations and special events is included in the District snack list; available under food services on the SV website. Birthday Recognition: If a parent chooses to provide the entire class with a birthday treat, the treat must be non-edible. The list below provides some examples of the types of activities that may be used to celebrate a student on their birthday. Lunch with a special person Donate a favorite book to the classroom library after reading it aloud to the class Donate a game to the classroom for indoor recess Children can bring in non-edible treats (stickers, notepads, pencils, journals, packet of seeds and flower pots, bubbles, coloring books, crayons, side walk chalk, etc.)
