What is Sustainability?
Continuity of program goals and activities to achieve target outcomes after the SWFI grant ends Activities may need adjustment over time to meet changing needs of workers and industry, as well as new funding opportunities Planning for sustainability takes time, so start early!

Planning for Sustainability
Establish a planning process early on Convene formal or informal work group on regular basis Use data to inform decision making Ensure sustainability planning is allowed within your SWFI grant Review your program’s vision and goals Determine whether vision and goals should change to meet future needs Set realistic expectations for future

Assess your program’s performance What has worked well and should continue? What has not worked well? What should be scaled up or down?

Based on future vision and goals, and assessment of performance, identify what’s needed to sustain your program: Resources—staff, equipment, space, etc. Partners and other stakeholders Funding—government, foundation, private sector

Sustainability Strategies
Develop strategies for building partnerships and obtaining needed funding and other resources For example, funding: List government, foundation, and private sector funding available to support your program Document funding amounts, deadlines, and materials needed for applications Assign a champion and staff to develop applications Track progress of funding awards Pursue additional funding sources if needed
