2 Objectives for today’s presentation
CQCs role and purpose To briefly talk about how CQC’s inspection methodology To briefly talk about what we do when we receive information of concern

3 CQC purpose and role Our purpose Our role
We make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve Our role We monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and we publish what we find, including performance ratings to help people choose care

4 CQC Strategy – Our Priorities
Over the next five years we will focus on four priorities Encourage improvement, innovation and sustainability in care We will work with others to support improvement, adapt our approach as new care models develop, and publish new ratings of NHS trusts' and foundation trusts' use of resources. Deliver an intelligence-driven approach to regulation We will use information from the public and providers more effectively to target resources where the risk to the quality of care is greatest and to check where quality is improving, and introduce a more proportionate approach to registration. Promote a single shared view of quality We will work with others to agree a consistent approach to defining and measuring quality, collecting information from providers, and delivering a single vision of high- quality care. Improve our efficiency and effectiveness We will work more efficiently, achieving savings each year, and improving how we work with the public and providers.

5 When we will inspect Registration
Newly registered services – the first comprehensive inspection will normally be scheduled between 6 to 12 months from the date of registration Ratings (Comprehensive inspections) Services rated as good and outstanding – normally within 30 months of the last comprehensive inspection report being published. Services rated as requires improvement – normally within 12 months of the last comprehensive inspection report being published. Services rated as inadequate – normally within 6 months of the last comprehensive inspection report being published. Risk (Comprehensive or Focus inspection) Move from a primarily reactive approach to risk: to a more dynamic proactive risk based approach
