The Art Of Henna Emily, Cassie, Bailee, Taylor

2 Goal The challenge that drove our work is learning how to use henna tools to create elaborate and long- lasting henna tattoos.

3 Learning/Research Process
We researched the history and cultural significance of henna Elaborate henna tattoos take lots of concentration and precise lines/hand movements. We had to research techniques. It was important to learn how to manipulate the henna to fit the design you’re trying to create through your hands and the use of tools. We researched designs and patterns common in the henna tradition. After trying and learning the process, we would definitely do this project again.

4 Materials Materials used were: Henna powder Eucalyptus oil
Citrus/sugar solution Applicator bottle Straight pin Wooden mixing stick Cotton balls  Cotton swabs  Toothpick for editing the design

5 Steps Pour water into the henna powder bottle up to the line.
Mix with wooden mixing stick. Pour Eucalyptus oil into the mix Mix thoroughly for five minutes. Apply henna to skin. Let henna dry on skin. (10 to 15 minutes) Lightly apply citrus/sugar solution to dry henna. This will create a darker and longer lasting color. Leave henna on skin as long as possible, or until dry again Remove the henna with a cotton ball and vegetable oil.

6 Product

7 Time/Resources Doing the final tattoos took about two hours total.
We looked to Google for inspiration on designs.

8 Difficulties Difficulties in this project would be:
Learning to make smooth and even lines Keeping the designs proportional We addressed these difficulties by tracing the design beforehand and using a steady hand while applying. Doing this again, we probably would have used a smaller application tip.

9 Evaluation Overall, we can agree that we were successful at the end of this project, although our designs were small. We chose to measure our success by the amount of effort put in as beginners at henna, our reactions to failure, and looking at the end result.
