Remind Students (and parents) are encouraged to sign up for Remind. I don’t send daily reminders. I do send reminders for important due dates, tests, etc. Text the number with the message for your child’s class period listed below: 1st 6th period: @fgfggd 4th

Policies/Expectations
Electronic Policy – students must silence or turn off their phone and place it in the organizer at the front of the room by the time the bell rings. Students who choose not to follow the expectation will be issued a consequence: 1st infraction – ASD and parent contact 2nd infraction – ASD and administrative referral

Late work – I do not accept late work for a grade. Absences – students are responsible for obtaining the make-up work and have 3 days to turn in the work. Use the web site. No food or drink – plain water allowed *This policy stems from a rodent / insect infestation! Ugh!

Grading Policy Determined using category percentages:
Homework (classwork, homework, short assignments) % Quiz (vocabulary, reading quizzes, notebook checks, projects) % Test (tests, essays, projects) 50%

Extra Credit Students have the opportunity to earn 5 points extra credit on weekly vocabulary quizzes (Be sure to read the Vocabulary Requirements to learn more!) During the course of the year, students will be given the opportunity to earn bonus points through various in-class activities. Beyond the above mentioned options, there is no extra credit for the course.

Activities/Assignments
Bell Ringer – Students will be required to complete Daily Grammar Practice (DGP) at the beginning of each period. Students will be required to turn in these activities after every 10 entries. Worth 100 Points. Voice Lessons-Students have 10 minutes to write a response to an excerpt that asks them to analyze Diction, Imagery, Details, Syntax, or Tone. Voice Lessons are collected every 10 entries. Worth 100 Points. -

Activities/Assignments
AP Terms: Students will study 80 terms in order to recognize them when analyzing others’ writing and recognize them for the multiple choice portion of the exam. This weekly assignment begins September 10. Weekly vocabulary study beginning September 10. Twenty words on each list. Voc. Cards due at the beginning of the week. Quizzes occur on Fridays and are cumulative.

Multiple choice practice – tests are difficult! In class essays Timed essay practice Current events and rhetorical précis (2nd semester) Edmodo – required to join by September 4 and will have additional assignments to complete

Literature Summer reading: Students will turn in the typed assignment for The Scarlet Letter on Monday, August 27. Summer reading test is on Tuesday, Sept. 4. on The Scarlet Letter and On Writing. This course will include a chronological examination of American literature enriched with the selection of fiction and non-fiction. All novels are available at NWHS.

Research Paper We will complete a research paper during the 3rd quarter. Students will read a classic novel from an American author. Then students will research the author’s life and time period identifying three influences and how those influences affect the author’s writing/novel. The majority of the research, planning, and typing will be completed outside of class.
