Legal basis: Regulation (EU) No 70/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council on statistical returns in respect of the carriage of goods by road Scope: Each MS (EU and EEA) shall compile statistics on the carriage of goods by means of goods road transport vehicles which are registered in that MS Malta is exempted until the umber of road vehicles licensed to engage in the international carriage of goods does not exceed 400

Frequency: quarterly, 5 months after the end of the reference period Data collection in MS is based on surveys (Eurostat receives micro data) Dataset A1: Vehicle related variables Axle configuration Age Maximum permissible weight Load capacity Vehicle operator’s NACE (optional) Type of transport (hired or reward/own account Total km covered (loaded and empty) Vehicle weighting

Legal provisions on access to road freight data
Regulation (EC) No 202/2010 concerning the dissemination of statistics on the carriage of goods by road “Researchers and the scientific community in general should have access for scientific purposes to the data transmitted to the Commission (Eurostat) under Regulation (EC) No 1172/98*, according to the principle laid down in Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council ( 3 ) on European statistics.”

Objectives Develop an anonymisation method in collaboration with Member States Produce the anonymised dataset Produce a user manual to accompany data (method, quality, etc.) Provide the means to Eurostat to anonymise updated microdata
