Common Core Standards The Standards define what all students are expected to know and be able to do, not how teachers should teach. – Phase I Getting to know the CCSS Presentation to principals and all staff members Distribution of grade-level standards Distribution of crosswalk documents grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 Wiki site : K-5 Common Writing Assessments based in CCCS Requirements K-5 Common Rubrics (K-2 revised to reflect CCCS – 3-5 all but conventions) Being a Writer – adoption in grades 6-7 (correlates to the CCCS) Training of all new elementary teachers in grades K-5

Phase II Implementation of CCCS in classrooms Writing Focus: A deeper look at the 3 types of writing and new convention standards/breakdown by grade level (K-12) Discussion and Teacher Input Development of Argument Writing Rubric at the Elementary Level Development of Middle School Rubrics and Common Assessments (6-7) Formation of 8th Grade Writing Pilot Committee High school alignment of Core Curriculum with current classes and expectations
