Ccsd talent development Analogies:  4th Grade

2 Analogy video Teachers will show the first video “Analogy Lessons.” In the video, it explains analogies with pictures and words. Students will watch the video and at different points in the teacher will pause it to allow some time for discussion whole group. **After viewing a few of the videos the teacher will ask the students about what they have just observed. You will probably refer to the videos often to help clarify and make comparisons, so leave the links up. Ask the students to identify each object in the video- you may want to write down what they have said on the board. After the students have identified the objects in the video ask them to tell you how they are alike or how they are different; what makes them go together. Allow the students to turn and talk then call on someone to answer the question and share their thought with the group.

3 Analogy video Teacher will show the video “Analogy Types” and pause at certain points allowing for whole group conversations.

4 What is an analogy? An analogy draws parallels between objects or ideas. It is a comparison between two items based on a similar characteristic or features. Analogies can be words, pictures, shapes or numbers.
