Properties of Translations
The image is congruent to the original figure. The orientation of the figure and its image are the same.
4
Translations can also be described by vectors.
A vector is a quantity that has both direction and magnitude (size). 15 G 10 F 5 5 10 15
5
Copy ABC and draw its image after each translation.
6
D(-3,2), E(-4,-4), F(2,-1); Every point moves 7 units to the right.
K(4,2), L(-1,2), M(4, -1); (a, b) (a+1, b-5)
7
Choose the coordinate notation that matches each translation described.
A. (a, b) (a - 4, b + 6) B. (a, b) (a + 6, b + 4) (a, b) (a - 6, b - 4) D. (a, b) (a + 4, b + 6) Every point moves 6 units to the right and 4 units up. Every point moves 4 units to the right and 6 units up. Every point moves 4 units to the left and 6 units up. Every point moves 6 units to the left and 4 units down. 7. B 8. D 9. A 10. C
