The name Synectics combines Greek word parts and suggests, "the bringing together of diverse elements."

4 WHAT IS SYNECTICS? Synectics is a strategy for creative thinking that involves comparing unrelated things and making a valid connection.

5 How Does It Work?

6 Using Synectics Choose a Synectics Task Card and Synectics organizer.
Brainstorm Similar words (synonyms). Describe what your topic feels like using emotions and physical attributes. Brainstorm Opposite words (antonyms). Review the first 3 lists to create a new similar analogy. Synthesis - evaluate all 4 lists to reveal key words and phrases . After completing your brainstorming responses, evaluate to reveal a theme that may incorporate several elements from your list. Write a paragraph describing your new understandings.
