Come to class prepared with all necessary materials (pencil, lined paper, workbook, interactive notebook, math folder, homework, etc.) Come to class with a good attitude ready to think, work, and learn. Be Respectful Respect yourself, your teacher, your classmates, all other students, and all UMS facilities and property. Be Successful Every student is capable of succeeding in Math 6 class. Do your best! Because you deserve your best! R2 = S

R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful
9 Classroom Conduct R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful What does Disrespect look like? Getting out of your seat without permission while the teacher, another adult, or a student is speaking to the class Talking, goofing off, or being otherwise disruptive while someone is speaking to the class or while you are supposed to be working quietly at your desk R2 = S Sending/receiving phone calls or texts, listening to music, or otherwise using electronic devices in the classroom. Devices will be taken and turned in to the office if used in the classroom as per UMS Policy. If Ms. Hatch sees it or hears it, she takes it! (this includes headphones!)

R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful
Classroom Conduct 9 R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful What does Disrespect look like? Choosing not to follow instructions the first time they are given to you Leaving papers, binders, books, garbage etc. on your desk or surrounding area and leaving for the day Talking back or arguing with the teacher or any other adult—respectful communication is always expected Laughing at, teasing, physically harming, bullying or otherwise belittling another person R2 = S Destruction of classroom items, erasing whiteboards, touching bulletin boards, getting into Teacher areas (desk, cabinets, drawers, etc.), or otherwise getting into or messing with things that do not belong to you

10 Classroom Conduct R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful YELLOW WARNING: The first time I have to talk to you about your disrespectful behavior you will be given a yellow card. This means that you are to stay after class for 30 seconds. During this time, you are to sit in your desk quietly until given permission to sign the behavior log before you leave. RED WARNING: If your behavior does not improve after receiving a yellow warning card it will be exchanged for a red warning card. This means that you will now be spending 1 min. after class. This will give us time to discuss your negative behavior further. Again, you must wait quietly in your seat until given permission to sign the behavior log before you leave. R2 = S
14
R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful
10 Classroom Conduct R2 = S Responsible x Respectful = Successful THINK-TIME: If you continue to cause problems in class, or if your behavior is at the level that removal from class becomes necessary, you will be sent to another classroom to complete the think-time worksheets. You will not be allowed back to class until these are completed and signed off by the receiving teacher. REFERRAL: Continuous negative behavior, or major offences, will result in a referral to the Vice Principal. You will be escorted to the office with the appropriate paperwork to be given directly to Mr. Taylor or Mrs. Rauzon. Any further consequences of your on-going negative behavior will be determined with them at that time. R2 = S

Classroom Procedures Entering the room Tardies & the Starter
12 Classroom Procedures Entering the room Please enter the classroom quietly and pick up all needed materials listed on the screen. Get to your assigned seat quickly and start working on your Starter immediately. Once you are in the room, class has started for you! Tardies & the Starter If you are not in your assigned seat working on your Starter when the bell starts to ring, you are tardy! Tardiness does not excuse doing the Starter.
19
Classroom Procedures Hall Pass Help/Questions
12 Classroom Procedures Hall Pass Hall passes are a privilege and may only be used with permission and at appropriate times. During the Starter is not an appropriate time. If you have a need to leave the classroom for any reason, bring your planner with you to talk to Ms. Hatch respectfully and arrangements will be made to let you go. Help/Questions Ms. Hatch is always available and willing to help. Raise your hand quietly and ask for help when you need it. Yelling out or being disruptive in other ways is not an appropriate way to get the help you need.
20
Welcome Back! Please pull out your pink packet and a pencil.
Please sit in the front 3 rows!
21
Classroom Procedures Let’s Practice! Take a Ride
13 Classroom Procedures Take a Ride This is how we will be turning in work and picking up needed materials during class. Upon being instructed to do so, students stand quietly in the isle, needed materials in hand, and await instructions to proceed. Once told to “take a ride” students will walk silently, single-file, around the room dropping off/picking up materials along the way. Whoot Whoot! Once you have your materials, you will continue to walk, silently and single-file, back to your seat, where you will wait quietly for the rest of the class to finish. Whoot Whoot! Let’s Practice!
22
Classroom Procedures Grading with Integrity Taking Quizzes/Tests
13 Classroom Procedures Grading with Integrity We will sometimes grade classwork, etc. as a class. Cheating on grading is only cheating YOU! You will receive a zero on the assignment with no opportunity to make it up. Taking Quizzes/Tests Quizzes/Tests are your chance to show me what you know. Cheating will not be tolerated. A pencil, quiz/test paper(s), and a ChromeBook (when needed) are the only things allowed on your desk during a quiz/test. Elbows above and knees below the desk at all times. No turning around. Eyes on your own paper. Mouths shut.
23
Classroom Procedures End of Class
13 Classroom Procedures End of Class Class is not over until Ms. Hatch excuses you. All materials must be put away before anyone leaves. Please take everything with you. No leaving backpacks, notebooks, folders, etc. behind! This classroom is not your locker! Interactive notebooks and workbooks may be left in classroom in the allotted places only!
24
Review! Classroom Procedures I am only cheating myself when I cheat!
Eyes on your own paper & cover your work! Classroom Procedures No Talking! Review! Quizzes & Tests are my chance to show what I know… I will always do my best – with integrity! When I say to do so, quickly prepare to “Take a Ride”. Gather up the needed materials, stand up and wait quietly in the isle for instructions to proceed. Entering the room Tardies & the Starter Hall Pass Help / Questions Taking a Ride Grading with Integrity Taking Quizzes/Tests End of Class I am only cheating myself when I cheat! You are tardy if you are not in your desk working on your Starter when the bell begins to ring. Tardies do not excuse the Starter. All electronic devices, including headphones, need to be out of sight when you enter the classroom! You may only use the Hall Pass with permission and during appropriate times. Enter the room quietly, take your seat and begin working on the Starter The bell does NOT excuse you, Ms. Hatch does. Stay in your seat until given permission to leave. If you have a question or need help, raise your hand quietly and wait to be called on. Yelling out is disruptive and disrespectful. Elbows above and knees below the desk at all times! Remember, once you are in the room, class has started for you! Back

Interactive Notebooks
15 In each chapter there will be vocabulary words, formulas, and other math rules that you will be expected to learn. Your interactive notebooks will be completed as a class during the lesson each day to help you learn these important concepts. While you are working on your homework in class or at home, it is a great idea to keep your notebook out to use as a reference. If absent, get notes and materials from the class website or from a the textbook (papers are in the “slots”). Interactive Notebooks Back hatchmath.weebly.com

All work done in Math 6 class needs to be done in PENCIL.
Be Prepared! Required Materials: Pencils (pencil case is optional) Lined paper 2-Pocket folder (plastic is preferred as it holds up longer) Composition Notebook (9-3/4" x 7-1/2" size, 100 sheets, college ruled) Basic Function calculator (at home, limited use only) Glue Stick (donated to class) Highlighter Colored pencils (optional) Did you get the handout? Be Prepared! All work done in Math 6 class needs to be done in PENCIL.
20 Be Prepared! All work done in Math 6 class needs to be done in PENCIL. Have your interactive notebook, workbook, math folder, lined paper and homework in class every day. Put your FULL name, class period, and assignment heading at the top of every paper.
34
20 Be Prepared Write neatly and circle or box your answers. If I can’t find or read your work, it is wrong. Show your work on every problem No work = no credit! Remember, 10 random problems will be graded, but EVERY problem needs to be completed. If you are absent or lose your homework, you can pick up a new one from the “Slots.”
35
You can “Click & Print” homework assignments on the website!
19 Most days there will be a homework assignment (never on quiz/test days). All work not finished during class will be due the school day after it is assigned. All assignments will include approx. 10 – 20 problems. All homework assignments are worth 10 points each. 10 random problems will be graded each day. Staying caught up on your homework is the BEST way to understand the concepts, reach mastery, and succeed on tests & quizzes. Homework You can “Click & Print” homework assignments on the website! hatchmath.weebly.com
36
How will Homework be Graded?
25 How will Homework be Graded? Ms. Hatch will select 10 random problems to grade and will CIRCLE them with a red pen. She will then grade the 10 problems. If it is correct, nothing will be added. But, if it is wrong, she will draw an X through the circled problem number. Your score on the homework will be determined by how many correct answers you got out of 10. (i.e. 8/10)
37
25 Grading Homework 8 10
38
26 Late Work All homework must be turned in with the class on the day it is due or it is late. All late work must be turned in on or before the “Drop-Dead Day”, which will always be 1 week before the end of the trimester. The teacher will stamp your paper as “Late” to tell you and your parents that the assignment was late.
39
26 Late Work If you are absent (excused) then you will be allowed one extra day per day you were gone to get your work in. Please write “Absent: the date” at the top of the paper when you turn it in. Additional accommodations on late work can only be made through Student & Teacher Contracts or Vacation Contracts through the attendance office so that it’s fair to both the student and the teacher.
40
21 Math Folder You will be expected to have a folder dedicated to hold math class materials only. The folder needs to go to and from home each day as it will hold all important class information, homework etc.
41
23 Workbooks You, will be given a Big Ideas Workbook to use during class and at home. These are YOUR workbooks for the entire school year, so DON’T LOSE IT! You are welcome to take it home at night to work on homework, but you must have it in class every day! Treat your workbook with care. You will be expected to pay to replace it if it gets lost or excessively damaged.
42
24 Textbooks You will also be assigned a Big Ideas Textbook. You may keep this textbook at home to work on homework. The textbook is also available online at bigideasmath.com (common core version, Green). There will be a classroom set of books available to you during class. These will not be allowed to be taken out of the classroom. The textbook is a great place to look for extra help, examples, and practice problems. You can also use the textbook to complete missed class notes.
43
22 Calculators Calculators are rarely used in Math 6 class and will not be allowed on tests and quizzes. A classroom set of calculators will be available to all students (when allowed) while in class, but will not be allowed to leave the math classroom, so calculators at home may be necessary for you to complete your homework (when allowed).
