WORLD WORK WEEK As you are aware, we hosted a ‘World Work Week’ this week, where all children got the opportunity to explore different careers through visitors coming in to tell us all about their workplace and trips out to different places of work. The children explored the importance of English and Maths in the workplace, the relationship between doing well at school and being successful in the world of work. Please see below some information of a few of the visits during the week, but for more information and photos, please take a look at our twitter feed using the following link Dragonfly class visited Lewisham Fire Station where they were given a special talk about fire safety and how they can look after themselves in an emergency. Some children got to dress up in real fire officers' uniforms! The children were then treated to a special tour of a fire engine which was kitted out with rescue equipment. They learned how fire officers help in all sorts of emergencies including having to lift trucks, cut train tracks and even row boats in floods! All the children got a chance to sit in the back of the engine and test the heat sensor camera and they also got to sit in the drivers seat and hear the sirens! Year 2 visited Lewisham Police Station. They had the opportunity to see one of the Emergency Services in action, where the police officers work, as well as interacting with real officers! They saw the horses in the UK's largest police horse stables, tried on riot gear, had a question and answer session with a serving officer, and even got to sit in a riot van and turn on the lights! Class 4W visited the Emirates Aviation Experience in North Greenwich. It was a really interesting morning spent learning lots of facts. Did you know an Airbus A380 costs £250million? Did you know that only 3% of the world's pilots are female? The children experienced landing and taking off in a flight simulator, sat in a real cockpit and watched the journey of baggage in an airport. They even got to see the inside of a jet engine! They ended their great morning by having in lunch in the sun next to the river. For World of Work Week, the Year 5 pupils travelled to Bank where they visited The City Centre, which is home to the City of London's official architectural model. The pupils learned about the history, present and future of the City of London. While at the city centre, the children were able to design and make models using different materials. They used this information to take back to school to design and make their buildings and present them to professionals from the construction industry.

Let Your Light Shine THE NED SHOW We did not have our celebration assembly this week as we had a company in to present to us called ‘The Ned Show.’ It was a really inspiring afternoon, where children were taught to ‘Never Give up’, encourage Others’ and ‘Do your Best.’ Every day before school next week, some of the Ned Show yo-yo merchandise will be available to buy. A letter has been sent home regarding prices for these. To avoid the potential upsetting situation of the yo-yo’s being mixed up or broken at school, we advise that they are put into the children’s bags and used at home rather than in school. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY 2nd – 4th July Year 6 Residential Wednesday 4th July New Reception (September 2018) Stay and Play Morning Friday 6th July Class 2W Assembly Tuesday 10th July Year 2 Trip Wednesday 11th July Primary Sports Day Monday 16th July Year 6 leavers mass 2pm Year 6 end of year performance Tuesday 17th July Thursday 19th July Year 6 Leavers Party Friday 20th July Last Day of Term NEW RECEPTION STAY AND PLAY On Wednesday next week, we have our new reception children who will be starting with us in September, coming into school for a stay and play morning. It is from 9am – 10.30am and while the children are playing in their new classroom, parents will have access to a free first aid for children workshop, where they will receive a certificate at the end. We look forward to welcoming our new children. PRAYER CORNER In this Sunday's Gospel, we will hear about the story of a father called Jairus who sought Jesus’ help because his daughter was very sick. Christians follow Jesus’ example by showing compassion and care for those who are sick. Just as Jairus turned to Jesus to heal his daughter, we pray for those who are sick, asking that Jesus comfort them, heal them, and give them strength. NEW SCHOOL UNIFORM After school on Wednesday next week, our uniform company (Whitehall Clothiers) will be in the upper courtyard from 3pm. You will be able to either view the new uniform and purchase it over the Summer holidays, purchase the new uniform on the day, or make an order to collect uniform at your convenience. A letter will go out on Monday to remind you exactly of what needs to be purchased for September. MIND TO BE KIND – THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Try to do something helpful at home that you don’t usually do. How did it feel? Have a lovely weekend Mrs Beckley
