Guidelines for entries
Entry must: Be your original work Be submitted with your signature and English teacher’s signature Be words Be typed in MLA style Have 4 copies submitted Be postmarked no later than Feb. 5th Not be offensive to good taste or Catholic principles Not have your name (on final entry)

Prizes 1st place – $1,000 2nd place – $750 3rd place – $500
4th place – $350

Prompt The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hires you as a consultant to determine how best to use $20 billion to save the world. What’s your plan? You may use your own experiences, observations, and/or readings. Judged according to your creativity and originality.

Brainstorming Using a bubble map, record potential ideas – leave space next to each one for brief notes on how you can elaborate and/or how you can justify using the money for that.

Share Your Brainstorming
Share your map – prompt your partner to elaborate on specific items. Why did you include X? What inspired this choice? Was it a personal experience? Was it based on something you read for a class? Was it based on something else? Can you be more specific about X? Why is X more worthy of a cause than Y?

Thesis Practice Write a thesis that succinctly summarizes your chosen route for using the money and why this is ultimately the wisest plan. Begin outlining/writing your rough draft after you finish. DRAFT DUE FRIDAY
