31
What is the best way to revise in Science?
Encourage your child to use DTT . Diagnosis Therapy Testing
32
Diagnosis 1. Make use of PLC: encourage your child to make an honest judgement of how well they know each aspect of the course, (progress checks and class tests can also help with this), and then guide them to target their revision starting with the topics they know the least.
34
Therapy Having identified areas of weakness, support your child in improving their knowledge by : Using online text book from Kerboodle. Watching online tutorials using My GCSE science
35
My GCSE Science revision plus
Encourage them to make notes by using Notes sheets provided on MY GCSE Science website. Mind Maps
36
Flash Cards Make flash cards to learn all the key terminology. On one side write the key term on the other the definition.
37
Testing (Active Recall)
Having improved their knowledge, ask your child to attempt past paper questions to test themselves . If they can successfully answer the test questions, go back to diagnosis (PLC) and move onto the next area of weakness. If not, go back to therapy and then re-test yourself.
38
How can you help your child specifically in science ?
Show my homework : Download SMHW parent app and ensure your child completes the home learning regularly. Revision: ensure your child regularly revises 60 minutes in addition to the home learning. Logins: ensure your child has a login for Kerboodle and MyGCSE science.com (our online learning platforms) and is using them regularly for revision. Biology: Ensure your child Learns scientific spellings Test them on spellings at least once a week. Physics: test them on unit conversions and equations.( 17 marks questions directly based on equations) Chemistry : formulas from the data sheet.
39
Assessment book Ask your child to show you the assessment book for Science. Students will have two books: a working book (to be kept with the student) and an assessment book. Finally share the strategies we have discussed with your child when you get home
