Girolamo Savonarola He was an Italian preacher
He was born in Ferrara, Italy He was educated by his grandfather He was hung and killed on May 23, 1498 in Florence

What Happened? Savonarola was one of the first reformers to try and change the Catholic Church He gave passionate sermons about how the church was abusive and he thought that the church should burn their gold and silver to feed the poor Savonarola was the person who gathered people to the Bonfire of Vanities

Who Was Involved? Girolamo Savonarola started the Bonfire of the Vanities The People burned their possessions like their jewelry Pope Alexander allowed him to teach his ideas at first but later prevented him from spreading it because his ideas were to dangerous Savonarola was excommunicated by the church

How did this Event Show Religious Disunity in Europe?
Girolamo went against the church by gathering people and having a huge fire burning their possessions He caused many painters to burn their paintings and other works Christian ideals left no room for imagination or dreams for the people

The Bonfire of The Vanities was a riot which the people threw their possessions in a huge fire to go against the church Savonarola was the person who started the fire and was the one who gathered all the people Because of this act he was arrested, tortured, and killed with his supporters
