3 Basic Dramatic Principles #2-#5
Exposition Conflict -the character who wants something is opposed by another character or force which is the source of the conflict Complication -additional problems arise in the play Climax -the moment of great emotional intensity Resolution-the final part of the play, where the conflict is resolved and the story is brought to a close

4 Dialogue #6 Dialogue is a conversation between characters. * Set off by quotation marks * Follows the name of the character in a play

5 Irony #7 Irony is a contrast between expectations and reality.

Dramatic Irony =when people watching a play know something that the characters onstage do not know Verbal Irony =a contrast between what is said or written and what is really meant Situational Irony =occurs when what happens is very different from what we expected would happen

7 Theme #12 A theme is a central message, concern, or purpose in a literary work.

8 Dramatic Text Analysis
Script: is the written version which contains the dialogue and stage directions. Stage Directions: are usually printed in brackets or parenthesis and in italics, which tell how the actors should look, move, and speak. Acts: dramas are divided into acts and further divided into scenes. Act I Scene 3
