But..... What are they going for? The “SHOW”?
Pack up the Babies, Grab the Old Ladies, & Everyone Goes Let’s see how this relates to a question posed of Jesus and a returning Question Jesus posed to the people. But..... What are they going for? The “SHOW”?
3
Where’s John been all this time?
Matt 11:2
4
John’s Disciples have a Question...
Luke 7:18 John’s mission was to prepare the way for the Messiah - and point the way to him... John has some disciples - who are VERY devoted to him and go to visit him in Prison - and tell him all the things that this “NEW PREACHER” in town has been doing - John’s disciples might even be a little jealous - or offended - that this “New” guy is “stealing a little of John’s thunder” How does John handle the situation? Luke 7:19-20
5
How does John handle the situation?
Luke 7:19-20 How does John handle the situation? Luke 7:19-20 Instead of just answering them - he want them to find out for themselves - They’ve obviously been hanging out around the periphery of Jesus’ sermons and “just checking him out” but have “failed to commit” and resisted joining in fully out of a misguided loyalty to John and a misunderstanding of John’s true mission.
6
Art thou he that should come? Or should we look for another?
Jesus’ reply - Luke 7:21-22 Their question for Jesus - Art thou he that should come? or should we look for another? Jesus’s reply - Luke 7:22 He instructed them to return to John to tell John about it - NOT cause John needed to know - BUT so that THEY could bear testimony to John and have that testimony strengthened and reinforced by John’s witness back to them....
7
Blessed is he shall not be Offended in Me
Matt 11: Luke 7:23 Jesus following statement - Matt 11:6, Luke 7:23 WOW - what a Statement - HE KNOWS that there ARE those who are “hanging on” - around the edges of the crowd - who are just there “for the show” - Is the World ever offended by Christ? Are We? What is his next series of questions all about? & how do they relate to “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show”?

What went ye out for to see?
Luke 7:24-30 What went ye out for to see? Are you really looking to repent? OR are you there just for the show? Are you looking for a Prophet? OR Are you just there for the “Show”?
9
What went ye out for to see?
Luke 7:33
10
What went ye out for to see?
Luke 7:34
11
A Condemnation Matt 11:16-17 A Bigger Condemnation Matt 11:20-24
You weren’t really there to find a Prophet - or to listen to his words or warnings or counsel You aren’t really there to find a Messiah - You are just there for the “show” - to be entertained - Don’t tell us any “hard things” anything that may make us “feel bad” or “guilty” or “make us want to change” or “repent” We’re just here “for the show”. A Bigger Condemnation - Matt 11: All the miracles and wonders that had been done - had been done in those cities he mentions - but they weren’t moved to repent - they were just there for the “show” A Bigger Condemnation Matt 11:20-24
12
What is Jesus thankful for?
Matt 11:25 Jesus then thanks his Father in Heaven for something - Matt 11:25 The humble - teachable - willing to be entreated - He then in conclusion he extends an Invitation 2 Ne 9:42-43
13
An Invitation & A Promise
Matt 11:28-30 He then in conclusion he extends an Invitation - those who are humble enough to hear & accept - To those who are not there JUST for the show - but to truly find an answer to their needs

Being Yoked with Christ,
How is that gonna help? A yoke is a heavy, wooden beam with two iron, u-shaped bars on each end. Both ends of the beam are curved to rest on the necks of two beasts of burden. The bars secure the yoke so that both animals are linked to each other and are forced to work together. With their combined strength, they are able to pull a greater load than either one could pull individually. What is required for a yoke to work? When two animals are yoked together, one of them must be dominant and the other one submissive. If two strong-willed oxen are yoked together, there will be constant tension as one ox pulls one way with a faster pace, and the other tries to pull another way at a slower pace.

If we let Him carry Our Burden we will find rest
Work in Harmony with Him Willingly submit to go His way If we let Him carry OUR burden, we will find rest but to do that we need to : work in Harmony with him, willingly submit to GO HIS WAY - put aside our own stubborn pride Learn to Work & Walk with Him Learn His Nature - so that it becomes our own But to do that - we have to STOP trying to carry the burden all by ourselves. Learn to Work & Walk with Him Stop trying to carry the burden all by ourselves. Learn His Nature
16
If we let Him carry Our Burden
we will find rest …the person that wears the yoke and bears His burden is the one who loves the cause of truth and righteousness more than all else. …the person that wears the yoke and bears his burden is the one who loves the cause of truth and righteousness more than all else. The person that wears the yoke of Jesus…has communication with the heavens, finds his yoke easy and his burden light; he is master of it. … … all that men can imagine and a million times more, God has in store for us. If we are faithful, all is ours. If we trample sin and iniquity under our feet, then we are the masters, which makes the yoke easy and the burden light. The person that wears the yoke of Jesus…has communication with the heavens, finds his yoke easy and his burden light; he is master of it.

Being yoked: Work in Harmony with Him Willingly submit to go His way
This concept of being “yoked to Christ” - takes commitment - not just a half-hearted desire - May we choose to be committed to Christ - we’ve ALL been baptized -- May we be truly committed - and not just here - in the gospel - at church - at seminary - “Just for the show” If we do -- we will find rest, find peace, and find a Savior who will truly bear our burdens. Learn to Work & Walk with Him Learn His Nature
19
A reminder about meekness:
Meekness (Greek) = Controlled Strength What events in Christ’s life showed his meekness? Moroni: “None is acceptable before God, save the meek.” (Moroni 7:43–44)
20
Elder Maxwell: “Meekness is the subtraction of self.”
President Kimball: ”Meekness is boldly denouncing evil, bravely advancing righteous works, courageously meeting every problem, becoming the master of himself and being near oblivious to personal credit. It is not weak, vacillating, nor servile submissiveness.”
21
Learn His Nature Happily, the commandment ‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart’ (Matt. 11:29) is a principle which carries an accompanying and compensating promise from Jesus: ‘and ye shall find rest unto your souls.’ This is a very special form of rest resulting from the shedding of certain needless burdens: fatiguing insincerity, exhausting hypocrisy, and the strength-sapping quest for recognition, praise, and power.

Choose to be teamed with Christ
Be committed, all the way! Don’t be there just for the “show” This concept of being “yoked to Christ” - takes commitment - not just a half-hearted desire - May we choose to be committed to Christ - we’ve ALL been baptized -- May we be truly committed - and not just here - in the gospel - at church - at seminary - “Just for the show” If we do -- we will find rest, find peace, and find a Savior who will truly bear our burdens. If you do: you’ll find rest, peace & a Savior who will bear your burdens
