DEFINITION milieu therapy or therapeutic community
is the structuring of the environment in order to effect behavioral change & improve the level of functioning of the patient

Basic physiological needs are fulfilled The physical facilities are conducive to achievement of the goals of therapy A democratic form of self-government exists Unit responsibilities are assigned according to patient capabilities A structured program of activities is scheduled as part of the treatment program Community and family are included

Case Scenario-Feedback
Madalyn, a 25y/o patient on the inpatient psych unit, is observed to be frequently interrupting Jack, the chairperson, at the daily community meeting. This has been going on for the last few days. Today Jack decides to confront Madalyn on her behavior and give her feedback.

Assignment In small groups, you are to take a turn portraying Jack while a peer takes the role of Madalyn In giving feedback to Madalyn, provide one example of appropriate feedback and one example of inappropriate feedback
