2. Growing Tensions
Tensions between Texas and the Mexican government grew during the 1820s and 1830s
Some Texans believed that separation from Mexico was their only solution

Trade expanded and population grew
New Mexican officials put an end to land grants
Many people that owned land grants legitimately could not settle their land because people already lived on it

4. Fredonian Rebellion 1826- Haden Edwards
Group of Texans claimed independence from Mexico in Nacogdoches
SFA sided with Mexico and stopped the rebellion

Found that Anglo-Americans outnumbered Mexicans 10 to 1 in North Texas
