1 A PRONOUN IS NOT A NOUN

2 RATHER, A PRONOUN… RENAMES A NOUN

3 Six basic kinds There are SIX basic kinds of pronouns:
Personal (1st, 2nd, 3rd) Demonstrative Relative Interrogative Indefinite Reflexive OR Intensive

4 While there are around SIX different types of pronouns,
We are only going to talk about one today, and that type is known as PERSONAL. PERSONAL PRONOUNS come in THREE types: 1st person 2nd person 3rd person

5 Personal Pronouns! FIRST PERSON: always includes the person talking:
I Us Me Our My Ours Mine We

6 Think of FIRST PERSON like this:
This guy’s so self-centered, he puts himself FIRST all the time: *Don’t I look stunning? *Six selfies is just not enough of me. *My mom says I should model for US Magazine. *We call this look “Bathroom Casual” *Our collective name is “Miami Ice”

7 2ND PERSON Personal Pronouns…
The second person only wants to talk about YOU YOU YOUR YOURS

8 Think of SECOND PERSON like this
In 2006, Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” was YOU. Yes, YOU. YOU control the Information Age. Welcome to YOUR world.

9 2ND PERSON ON SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

10 3rd Person Personal Pronouns…
Third Person: never includes the person talking. He him his she Her hers it Its They them their theirs NOTICE: the contraction “it’s” is not present in the above list. Why?

11 Think of 3rd person like this:
He is telling him that it is his fault, but she wonders if it is her fault. They all believe it is their own fault, but they certainly won’t tell them that.

12 Now it’s your turn I will place you into groups of approximately six students each. In your group, you will create three slides: 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person (two group members for each). Choose a picture for your type of personal pronoun and create a brief scenario in which you use the pronouns of that type. Highlight your pronouns in a different color than the rest of your text. Combine all three slides into one file, save it, and share it with me on Google Drive. Be sure to title the file with class period, personal pronouns, and who did each slide. EX: 5th, David, Ben, Autumn, Graham, Jacob, Carrie. You may use this actual presentation and delete my pictures and words, replacing them with your pictures and words.
