Function To extend protection to both plants and animals that are endangered or threatened Outlaws the distribution of plants and animals outside of its native areas as well as outlawing poaching, the use of DDT, etc. In 1985: Captive-Breeding programs begin in San Diego and LA zoos As a result of the near-extinction of the California Condor (there being only 9 left in the world)
