Here are some key terms you will come across in your analysis of political cartoons:
Symbol – any item that is drawn to represent something else (ex. a beaver to represent Canada)
Device – a technique used by a cartoonist to emphasize a point or show an emotion (ex. sarcasm, irony, humour etc…)
Message – the goal of a cartoon is to convey a specific message or point of view without actually saying it
