Key terms Here are some key terms you will come across in your analysis of political cartoons: Symbol – any item that is drawn to represent something else (ex. a beaver to represent Canada) Device – a technique used by a cartoonist to emphasize a point or show an emotion (ex. sarcasm, irony, humour etc…) Message – the goal of a cartoon is to convey a specific message or point of view without actually saying it

Your task Observe and interpret the following political cartoons using the skills of inquiry Look for symbols, devices, and any other hints to help you figure out what the cartoonist is trying to say
