The Way of the Blessed Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The Way of the Blessed

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The “poor in spirit” are those who realize they are spiritually bankrupt and that only God can save them. Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart. These, O God, You will not despise.” Isaiah 66:2b  The LORD said, “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” 2 Corinthians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” It refers to mourning over one’s spiritual condition. Isaiah 59:1-2  (our iniquities separate us from God) Isaiah 61:1-2 (quoted by Jesus in Luke 4) 2 Corinthians 7:8-10a (sorrow that leads to repentance)

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 11: “For I am meek and lowly in heart…” Meekness is power and strength under God’s control. Psalm 37:9-11 “For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land. Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; And you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Focus on things above, not on things of the earth. Psalm 42:1-2a “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” We as God’s people are called to be merciful to others just as God is merciful to us. Forgiveness from God is actually contingent on our forgiveness of others. Matthew 6:12, (Jesus on how to pray) James 2:13  “For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Psalm 24:3-4a  “Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.” Greek word katheros is often translated as clean, but what’s inside is much more important than outside. Matthew 23:25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Greek word katheros is also translated as PURE, as in purified by fire to acquire only the pure substance. We are to remove all the impurities of this world and focus fully on God and His will for our lives. 1 John 3:2b-3 “We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.  And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” We are not just to be peace-havers but peace-makers! Ephesians 4:1-3 (make peace and maintain unity) If we are to maintain that precious gift of unity, we must actively seek to do whatever it takes to keep that unity. Exodus 2:13 (Moses saw a couple of brethren fighting) Acts 7:26 Moses “tried to reconcile them in peace.” John 17 Jesus prayed that His followers “might all be one.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” 2 Timothy 3:12  (KJV) “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” 2 Timothy 3:12  (NIV) “Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” John 15:18-19  Jesus said, “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”

The Way of the Blessed “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Mark 10:  Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.”

The Way of the Blessed WHAT BLESSINGS ARE YOU SEEKING FOR YOUR LIFE?
