2 Project Goal The goal of the terminology services project is to make the concepts in knowledge organization schemes and the relationships within and between schemes more accessible to people and computer applications

3 Approach To develop techniques/web services that can be redeployed in other environments Web services are modular, web-based, machine-to-machine applications that can be combined in various ways

4 Terminology Services Terminology services are web services for knowledge organization schemes (kos) e.g., authority files, subject heading systems, thesauri, taxonomies, and classification schemes A web service that provides mappings from a term in one vocabulary to one or more terms in another vocabulary is an example of a terminology service, e.g. DDC/LCSH mappings

5 Schemas Supported MARC 21 formats for authority and classification data SKOS core, an RDF schema for thesauri and related knowledge organization schemes Zthes version 0.5

DDC22 summaries web service Captions & Hierarchy Multiple languages English, French, German, Spanish DDC ebook browser Developed in collaboration with Thom Hickey
